Mary's Spirituality is Humility.

Mary's Humility is Legion of Mary Spirituality.

Gabriel said to Mary,

Hail, full of grace!  The Lord is with you

Mary was greatly troubled by his greeting and wondered what it meant.

Gabriel continued

Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God, Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.

He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.

Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

Mary was overcome with emotion.

Mary told Gabriel

Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord, may it be done to me according to your word.

  • Mary’s humility was her total trust in God, asking only how, in her circumstances it would take place.
  • Mary’s humility was her total commitment to the role which God had chosen for her.
  • Mary’s humility was her total acceptance of her Son’s teachings and the preceding truths of the Bible as she followed him through his life, to the cross and the upper room.
  • Mary’s humility was her total trust in her motherly authority and trust, as evidenced at the Wedding Feast at Cana.
  • Mary’s humility was her total motherly love of her Son from her “Thy will be done” to this day.
  • Why then would Mary not be our most powerful role model and intercessor for our petitions?

Mary’s humility is an heroic humility, never before seen, never blemished, never to be equaled in salvation history and the reason Mary was endowed with the unique blessing of her Immaculate Conception.

And this is why Mary the Mother of God is such a necessary and essential part of salvation history.  In this role, Mary is the perfect intercessor to Her Son and role model for Christianity to emulate.

To approach God through Mary, we must emulate Mary’s humility, we must to strive to achieve her heroic and humble humility. This is the heroic humility that St. Louis de Montfort urges all to aspire to in his books, especially True Devotion to Mary.  It is this humility that Frank Duff writes about in the Handbook and to which he urges all the members of his Legion to aspire.
